Our Commitment to the Environment

Did you know that you're travelling in an environmentally efficient way when you're on a coach or bus?

It's true! Think of how many people travel with you and the number of cars that would be on the road if you each drove to your destination. In fact, statistics say that for every coach or bus journey there are as many as 20 fewer cars on the road.

At Johnsons Coach & Bus Travel, this isn't where environmental consideration ends. We're doing our best to keep our fingers on the pulse, save fossil fuels, maintain good prices in spite of fuel increases and keep on providing the highest quality service possible.

We look at how our drivers handle the vehicles and given them extra training to make sure they use gentle braking, appropriate gear selection and the shortest amounts of time 'ticking over'. This will not only enhance the smoothness and comfort of your journey, but reduce air and noise pollution in pick up and drop off points.

In summer 2010 we conducted a trial using the UK's first electric bus on Stratford's Park and Ride service. It works in exactly the same manner as its diesel equivalent but without the noise or gaseous fumes. The trial lasted for a week and was monitored by Aston and Coventry Universities. Alternative fuels signify exciting times for the company and hopefully you'll read lots more about our progress as it continues.

Finally, we think that an environmentally efficient fleet can only be effective if the whole business is thinking in a carbon conscious way. So, we've initiated an external assessment of our processes in the offices, covering areas such as waste management and energy usage, with green changes being initiated all the time. We have also made a conservation area next to our depot in Henley-in-Arden and planted 3,000 trees and wildflowers. The size of the conservation area is equal to our carpark and we are expecting a delivery of bees this summer (2012).
