Located in the very centre of the charming Bavarian village of Hohenau, the family run Hohenauer Hof offers easy access to the Bavarian Forest, as well as the potential for excursions into Austria and the Czech Republic. All 80 bedrooms have balconies, offering views over the village and surrounding countryside. The cosy restaurant serves fresh dishes, ranging from light bites to traditional meals, and there is a large beer garden which opens for summer. Guests can enjoy the hotel's leisure facilities which include an indoor pool and sauna. Please note this hotel is split between two buildings, 100m apart. The lift cannot access the third floor and there are no ground floor rooms.

Begin your journey with a ferry crossing from the UK to Calais, enjoying views across the English Channel. Upon arrival in France, continue by coach through scenic countryside to the charming city of Metz, where you will stay overnight. Metz is known for its beautiful architecture and relaxed riverside setting perfect for the first evening of your trip. |
Monday |
After breakfast, depart Metz and travel east through France and into Germany, taking in ever-changing landscapes along the way. Continue to the Bavarian Forest region, arriving at Hohenauer Hof in Hohenau, your base for the next few nights. Settle in and enjoy traditional Bavarian hospitality in this picturesque setting. |
Tuesday Morning |
This morning, visit the renowned Joska World of Crystal, where you will experience a fascinating glass-blowing demonstration. Watch skilled artisans at work as they shape molten glass into intricate designs, and take time to browse the showroom filled with unique crystal pieces. |
Tuesday Afternoon |
In the afternoon, enjoy a truly memorable horse-drawn sleigh ride through the beautiful Bavarian landscape. Afterwards, stop at a traditional alpine ski hut, where you can relax with snacks and soak up the atmosphere while enjoying live music - a wonderful taste of local culture. |

Today, travel to the historic town of Passau, often called the "City of Three Rivers," where the Danube, Inn, and Ilz meet. Join a guided walking tour to explore its charming old town, baroque architecture, and impressive cathedral. Afterwards, you’ll have free time to explore at your leisure, enjoy shopping, or relax at a café. |
Thursday Morning |
This morning features a delightful visit to a local alpaca farm. On a guided tour, learn about these gentle animals, their care, and their fleece production. You may even have the opportunity to get close and take photos - an enjoyable and unique experience. |
Thursday Afternoon |
In the afternoon, take a guided walk through the Bavarian Forest, one of Germany’s most beautiful natural regions. The walk leads to the popular Treetop Walk (Baumwipfelpfad) attraction, where elevated walkways offer stunning panoramic views over the forest canopy - an unforgettable highlight. |
Friday |
After breakfast, bid farewell to Bavaria and begin the return journey westwards. Travel through Germany and France to Metz, where you will overnight once again, giving you a chance to relax after the day’s journey. |
Saturday |
Following breakfast, continue to Calais for your return ferry crossing to the UK. Arrive home with wonderful memories of Bavaria’s culture, landscapes, and unique experiences. |
