Day One: Arrival |
We depart Henley in the early hours and make the short ferry crossing from Dover to Calais. Upon arrival in France, we continue and check-in to our overnight hotel at Mercure Rouen Champ-de-Mars. |
Day Two |
We continue through the Normandy countryside to Mont Saint-Michel for a four-night stay. |
Day Three |
Spend the day exploring the famous island, dominated by its stunning abbey. The town has welcomed visitors for centuries and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The medieval pedestrian centre is full of shops and cafés, culminating at the abbey. The island can be accessed by regular local shuttle buses or by walking along the causeway from the hotel, approximately 1km. |
Day Four |
Today we travel to Caen, where admission is included to the Caen Memorial Museum for a self-guided visit. This impressive museum provides an excellent introduction to the events of the Second World War, the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy. After an included hot lunch, we are joined by a specialist guide for a five-hour tour of the D-Day beaches and key World War II sites, bringing the stories of the Normandy campaign vividly to life. We also include entrance to the Arromanches 360° Circular Cinema, overlooking the remains of the Mulberry Harbour, before returning to Mont Saint-Michel. |
Day Five |
Cross into Brittany and explore the Côte d'Armor. Begin with a stop in the walled city of Saint-Malo and discover its harbour, ramparts and cathedral within the medieval centre. Continue along the coast to the elegant seaside town of Pléneuf-Val-André, with its beach and marina. Return via the charming riverside town of Dinan, known for its medieval old town. |
Day Six |
We depart Mont Saint-Michel and return to Rouen for an overnight stay at the Mercure Rouen Champ-de-Mars. |
Day Seven |
We take the short crossing back to Dover, and return home. |
