    Day One: Arrival

Travel east to the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds, a lovely introduction to Suffolk with its attractive streets, abbey ruins, gardens and welcoming town centre. There will be time to enjoy the surroundings before continuing to Ipswich, where your hotel enjoys an excellent position beside the marina on the town's regenerated waterfront.

    Day two

Today we visit the charming seaside town of Southwold on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. Often described as "the town that time forgot," Southwold offers fresh sea air, colourful beach huts, an award-winning pier, a working lighthouse and the famous Water Clock. Enjoy time at leisure to stroll along the seafront, browse the independent shops or relax with refreshments in this much-loved coastal resort.

    Day three

This morning we explore Sutton Hoo, one of Britain's most important archaeological sites and the setting for an extraordinary Anglo-Saxon royal burial discovery. Discover the Royal Burial Ground, learn more in the exhibition and admire the full-size Anglo-Saxon ship sculpture. Later, continue to Aldeburgh, an elegant seaside town known for its pebble beach, colourful buildings and strong musical and artistic heritage.

    Day Four

Enjoy a scenic drive through the beautiful Dedham Vale and Stour Valley, the gentle countryside forever associated with artist John Constable. We call at East Bergholt, his birthplace, before continuing through picturesque villages and rural landscapes. Later, visit Beth Chatto Gardens, an inspiring naturalistic garden transformed from challenging terrain into a celebrated collection of gravel, woodland, water and scree gardens.

    Day Five

After breakfast, we visit Lavenham, one of England's best-preserved medieval villages, where crooked timber-framed buildings and a handsome market square create a wonderfully atmospheric final stop. Enjoy time to explore the village, perhaps visiting the Guildhall or browsing the small shops and tearooms, before travelling home after lunch with fond memories of scenic Suffolk.
